SANTA BARBARA MARITIME MUSEUM
OPENS NEW SURFING EXHIBIT
Santa Barbara Maritime Musuem’s new
permanent “Surf’s Up!” celebrates the
role surfing plays in Santa Barbara
County.
Santa Barbara’s surf culture tends to
fly under the radar, but the region has
always played an influential role in the
international surf scene.
Legendary surf spots Rincon, The
Ranch and Jalama, and living legends
George Greenough, Bruce Brown and Renny
Yater helped put Santa Barbara on the
map.
This rich history is now preserved
and the story told via the Santa Barbara
Maritime Musuem’s new permanent “Surf’s
Up!” exhibition opening in March.
The multimedia exhibit features
artifacts, photos, classic surfboards
and other memorabilia, along with video
clips and oral histories. Upstairs from
the museum, the Endless Summer Bar-Café
features memorabilia from Bruce Brown’s
iconic surf films.
