The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum was
saved from closing, according to Santa
Cruz Park & Rec Dept. officials who
faced deficits in operating a handful of
Surf City's tourist and community funded
draws. Community members have stepped up
to rescue such facilities recently as
the U.S. economy soured with the worst
job market since 1945!
In their efforts to save a surfing icon,
Santa Cruz Surfing Club Preservation
Society got a $4000 check from Wetsuit
pioneer Jack O'Neill to help operate the
Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse's
Surfing Museum. "Surf City Santa Cruz
should have a surf museum," said
O'Neill, who is known around the globe
for his contributions to surfing with
the creation of wet suits that offer
protection and warmth in the world's
oceans.
