Surfing your way into the local beaches of Cali, you may be
looking for a night of fun. You'll find some
California beach bonfire pits along the way
but most beaches don't allow for overnight stays (one of the top
questions to convention and visitors bureaus promoting these
destinations.)
Our very favorite bonfire place is kind of out of reach for
the average Surfer Joe. It's located in Oceano at the state
recreational vehicle beach next to Nipomo Sand Dunes. You bring
your own wood (or they sell it from the back of a truck right
there) and you plop your wood down on the sand for a bonfire. I
am not sure about the ecology and clean up of this process but
it makes for one of the great, old-fashioned experiences you
would tell your kids about as you got old. "I remember
