Surf City residents want more
outdoor leisure activities, said
Surf City Mayor Zander Guy. Surf
City's 25 year strategic plan of
building permanent structures
for its recreational needs of
citizens were well under way
nearly a decade ago, and now
locals and visitors seek more
places to enjoy outdoors, they
say.
Ready to move from a resort
destination to a year round
attraction, the mayor, city
officials and townspeople are
eager to embark on an aggressive
strategy to meet the demand for
modern amenities that could
include skateboard parks and
picnic areas might be in the
future for Surf City as the town
looks to offer more outdoor
recreational activities for
residents and tourists.
Engineering firm Cavanaugh &
Associates performed a parks and
recreation survey and found that
residents would like to see
recreational opportunities off
the island such as bike paths,
walking trails and boat ramps.
With several residential
subdivisions under construction
on the mainland, vacation
traffic and more residents on
the way, it would be nice to
have some activities and
attractions closer to home so
locals won't be forced to leave
the mainland and go onto the
island.
